Santafé Wanderers vs sunflower state - july 10th, 2026

The Santafé Wanderers FC were formed in 1990’s. They’ve been a staple in the Adult leagues around the region since. They are the elder statesmen of the KC soccer scene.

Sunflower State FC formed in 2019. They are the proverbial “new kids on the block.”

The two teams met on July 10th for the third time this season. Santafé entered the night in second place in the Great Plains Division of USL League Two. However they faced a tough evening after their keeper was issued a red card in the 13th minute.

Sunflower State took advantage of the extra player in the 19th minute. A free kick occurred just outside the box and bounced off the post. Dylan Willingham was able to put the rebound in and the score was 1-0.

Santafé refused to give up however and scored in the 45th minute making the halftime score 1-1.

Halftime adjustments proved vital for the outcome as Santafé dominated the beginning of the second half and Jony Munoz scored two goals less than two minutes apart to give the Wanderers a 3-1 lead.

Sunflower State didn’t give up however. They dominated the last 20 minutes and had several opportunities come up just short until they scored a second goal in the 80th minute. Sadly that is as close as they would get as the game ended with a 3-2 final score.

Santafé took the season series 5-2, 5-0, and 3-2 perhaps proving that the old can still compete with the new.
